DAIRY FARM LABOUR CONDITIONS
THE BILL DELAYED [From Ouk Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, May 25. The Agricultural Labourers’ Accommodation Amendment Bill, which will give legislative effect to the arrangement entered into between the Government and the Farmers’ Union representatives in regard to the wages and conditions of workers on dairy farms, may not be passed before the creak in the session about the end of this month, owing to the rush of other business to be dealt with. ~ , , The Minister of Labour said to-day that the Bill will be a consolidation of existing legislation dealing with the accommodation of farm labourers, with the addition of provisions giving effect to an arrangement made with the farmers’ representatives. It was tied up with the guaranteed prices plan, and would come into operation on August 1, so that there was really no necessity to rush it through before the break in the session. Apart from the fixing of wages and conditions for workers on dairy farms, the Bill will bring up to date the legislation regarding accommodation for shearers and other farm workers. It will consist of about 20 clauses, most of which will be brought forward from the existing legislation.
