The Italians at Diredawa arrested Bonner, a warrant officer attached to the British ambulance unit in Abyssinia, while en route for Aden for treatment for rabies. It is feared that the consequent delay will endanger his chances of recovery. A British diplomatic bag addressed to the British Consul at Djibuti disappeared between Addis Ababa and Djibuti. The British Consul was warned by telegram to meet the train and take charge of the bag, but the bag was not forthcoming when the train arrived, and it has not been seen since. The Italians are undermining the rights of foreign legations by entering the grounds in search of foreign residents. They ordered Sikhs who were guarding the British Legation to give the Fascist salute, but the Sikhs refused. A high Italian officer is reported to have told British subjects that “ we shall soon be ruling you in India as well.” YOUNG ABYBSINIANS ENROLLED ROME, May 18. Although the Italians have not yet recruited adult Abyssinians, they have already started to enrol Abyssinian youths in a newly-founded organisation named the “ Abyssinia of the Lietor.” The uniform consists of a white cap, a khaki shirt, shorts, and a green neck scarf. The training includes military instruction. INSTRUCTIONS TO FOREIGN RESIDENTS LONDON, May 18. The Rome correspondent of ‘ The Tmes ’ states that foreign residents in Addis Ababa have been ordered to present themselves to the Italian authorities for registration, otherwise they are liable to expulsion. THE DUMDUM LIE LONDON, May 19. The members of the House of Commons are generally satisfied with the thoroughness of Mr Eden’s exposure of the dumdum lie, and the Government will not. be pressed to take up the Italian Embassy’s connection with it. Further questions with regard to the position of the Italian attache will be asked, some members bolding that the Government should invite the Italian Government to make a change. A COUNTER CHARGE DUTCH DOCTOR’S ALLEGATION. LONDON, May 19. (Received May 20, at 10.5 a.m.) Mr Eden’s dumdum exposure finds a counter-charge by Dr Winckel, head of the Dutch Red Cross, that the Italians definitely used dumdums. His ambulance treated hundreds of Abyssinians thus , wounded. Dr Winckel confirms the statement that poison gas demoralised the Abyssinians, who behaved like frightened children.
