TWELVE MILLIONS
AMERICA’S UNEMPLOYED TOTAL Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright . NEW YORK,. May 19. The American Federation’ of Labour has issued a report on the first quarter of ' 1936 showing that employment gained 2.4 per cent, and wages 4.8 per cent., while business profits rose 36 per cent. The cost of living rose 2 per cent., so the actual wage gain was only 2.3 per cent. The report warns that the failure of re-employment to keep pace with the business recovery has created a serious problem. Although 2,800,000 more persons are working than a year ago, there are still 12,184.000 unemployed.
