AUCKLAND CLUB
SUCCESSFUL OPENING SOCIAL As the summer vacation draws to a close members of social clubs await with eagerness the resumption of their winter functions, and the announcement of the Auckland Club’s opening social at the Vedic on Saturday evening was responded to by a numerous attendance. The president (Mr H. H. Osborne) and Mrs Osborne were the host and hostess. A pleasurable increase in tho ranks of members was noted, and to these and the visitors the president (Mr Osborne) extended a special welcome. The function was graced by the presence of the club’s vice-patron, Rev. E. T. Cos (mayor), who has always assisted in stimulating the spirit of friendship, which is the mutual foundation of the club. An interesting feature was the display of ‘ Tho Gateway to New Zealand Guide Books ’ for visitors to Auckland, edited by Mrs Edna Graham Macky. prominent in Auckland literary and travel clubs. Mrs Macky is also well known in Dunedin civic circles. Several of tho club members had during the vacation enjoyed a trip to the home town, and entertained the
gathering with interesting and humorous accounts of their visit, also conveying remembrances from former club members they had met. Among these were the club’s first president, Mr T. Kirk-Burnnand, and his wife, who were now settled in Auckland. Remembrances were also received from Mr and Airs R . A. Alalone. Thus past members are linked again in the chain of which they were a part. The recent departure for Wellington of other popular members, Air and Mrs A. S. Fraser, was heard of with regret. The best wishes of their fellow-members go with them. Mr .1. Letcher, as AI.C., drew all into participation in merry games, competitions, and choruses. Dancing was also much enjoyed. Prizes were won by Miss Simon, Aliss Pike, and Mr Alitohell.
