DANCING COMPETITIONS
A meeting of Dunedin dancing teachers was held yesterday morning to arrange an amateur ballroom competition in which it is intended that the successful couple should attend a similar competition in Auckland. At this latter competition, in which there will be representation from the four main centres in the Dominion, a fimjil selection will be made, and the successful couple will be sent to Sydney to compete at the Trocadero, a cabaret recently opened under the dictatorship of Mr J. C. Bendrodt, who has undertaken the cost of the trip.
The meeting was convened by Aliss Alargaret O’Connor, who is visiting the four main centres with the object of organising the competitions. Dancing teachers at the smaller centres have also been communicated with in order that the competitors may be fully representative of the Dominion. Those present at yesterday's meeting formed themselves into a committee with Air P. J. Hackott as secretary and convener of meetings. General rules and conditions governing the competitions were drawn up temporarily, and the question of the appointment of judges was also discussed. The Dunedin competitions arc expected to commence early next month, and it is hoped that the final selection will be made in July.
