Going down the back fean Michele had a good break on the field, and Great Wood was jogging along about 30yds behind the leader of the fitdd in about seventh place. Great Wood improved his position running round the top into the straight, and with five furlongs to go was lying second to. San Michele, followed by fairish Chimes. Royal Romance, Gaynor, and Carl, with Moerangi tailing (he field,.' There was (little . change in the order going down the back,-and^,round-ing the far turn -Great Wood-*hot-to-the front- from San Michele, Gaynor, and Parrish Chimes, Royal Romance dropping right out. The order was the same into the strr/ght, and Great Wood collected a double with the greatest of ease, finishing two and a-half lengths dear of Carl, who beat Gaynor by two lengths, followed by San Michele. Big Author, who was heavily backed, stood on the mark and practically tailed the field throughout. Nobleman led the, way to All Sunshine, Aristotle, and Golden Cross, over two furlongs where Morello moved up but broke badly. Going down the back, Hocks Ahead was lying fourth followed by llongomai and Young Travis. There was not much change in the order over the next four furlongs when Wise Guy assumed command and led Aristotle, Nobleman, Rocks Ahead, and Golden Cross, down the back, with Kongomai, Noble Prince, and Young Travis, next. Tho order was practically the same approaching the turn for homo with tho exception of Rongomai, who had moved up fast into fourth place. In the run homo, a great tussle ensued between the four placed horses, young Travis coming through on the rails to win by three quarters of a length from Rocks Ahead, who beat Aristotle by half a length. Wise Guy was a head away fourth, followed by Golden Cross, Rongomai, and Big Author. Times: 3min 14 l-ssec, 3min 15 3-ssec, 3min 15 4-ssec.

Going down the back stretch Queen Author opened out a five lengths lead to Graham Direct and Grace M’Elwyn at the head of a buAched field. The field closed up on Queen Author at the far turn, whence Unfavourite broke badly. With five furlongs to go, Vesuvius and Supertax had moved up into third and fourth places respectively just behind Queen Author and Grace M'Elwyn. Going down the back. Queen Author was under a strong hold, but led into the straight from Supertax, Grace M'Elwyn, Vesuvius, and Sunny Morn, who broke. In tho run home, Queen Author was overtaken by Grace M’Elwyn, who beat Supertax home by one arid a half lengths, Cloudy Range being a short length back, third, a neck in front of Queen Author, although Bingen Palm was awarded the placing.
