NEW VICAR INDUCTED

HOLY CROSS CHURCH SERVICE As successor to the Rev. A. Wingfield, Yvho recently retired alter 18 years’ service as vicar of the Holy Cross Anglican Church at St. Kilda, the. Rev. C. E. P. tho Rev. V. G. Bryan King. The new vicar made formal declaration, and wa» duly inducted to his appointment, the bishop’s charge being recited by Archdeacon Whitehead. Groves, after Yvhich the keys of the church and vicarage were handed to Mr Webb by his church Yvardcn (Air P. J. Priest), Yvho also expressed acceptance on behalf of the parish. In the course of a brief sermon, the Rev. F. Vivian Fisher commended the new vicar, Yvliose influence, ho said, had boon far reaching in_ a former southern charge, where iic preceded the speaker. The point Yvas stressed that without tho help and co-operation of parishioners it Yvould he impossible for Air Webb’s activities to be successful. But experience had shoYvn the St. Kilda parish to be a homely one, and it was felt that the congregation Yvould find Mr Webb a keen and Yvorthy priest. At the social function in tho school room, folloYving the induction ceremony, tho bishop told something of Air Webb’s career, and added that wherever lie bad been stationed he had earned the respect of parishioners, Yvhom lie had deeply impressed. He congratulated the parish on the appointment. Further congratulatory speeches Yvere given by Air J. J. Marlovv (mayor of St. Kilda), the Rev. G. L. Taylor (Musselburgh Presbyterian Church), and tho Rev. T. Skuse (St. Kilda Methodist Church), after which Mr Webb briefly replied on behalf of his wife and himself, and thanked parishioners for their warm Yvelcome. Several musical items were contributed, and a Y’ote of thanks Yvas accorded the Rev. J. L. Anderson for taking the sendees since Air Wingfield’s departure in February.
