CAMBRIDGE JUBILEE
On August 19 next the Borough of Cambridge will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary'. To mark the occasion celebrations extending over five days are being 'planned by a strong committee of citizens, recently elected for the purpose. There are many former residents of this attractive Waikato town scattered throughout the Dominion. and the organisers of tho festivities hope that as many of them as possible will revisit Cambridge in August. The programme will probably include, in addition to tbe official ceremonies, a citizens’ ball, a children s fancy dress hall, tours of district, a band contest, special illuminations, and fireworks display, processions, a representative football match, a golf tournament, and possibly a special race meeting. It was on Angst 19, 1886, following a petition from a number of ratepayers of tbe Cambridge Town Board, that the proclamation creating the town a borough was gazetted. The first mayor was Mr John Gwymneth. His successors and the councillors who have been in office since 1886,_ have created a progressive town which is justly famed for its trees, parks, and, other scenic attractions, and also for its sporting facilities.
