PURAKANUI AMENITIES SOCIETY
COMMITTEE MEETING A meeting of the Purakanui Amenities Society was held last Tuesday night, when there were present:—Mr J. H. F. Hamel (chairman). Mrs I. Matheson, Messrs A. Juriss, P. JB. Corke, W. S. Grenfell, G. Davidson, R. Jackson, G. Jackson, Smith, and D. I. Elliot, Miss E. C. Matheson (secretary), and Miss I. A._ Matheson (treasurer). Prior to commencing the business the chairman referred to the loss the society had suffered through the death of one ol its members, Mr H. C. Campbell. Reference .was also made' to the
passing of Mrs Porteous, and motions of sympathy were carried. Appreciative reference was made to the generosity of Mr H. Paterson, who gave his time and the use of his launch for the various aquatic events every year, and it was unanimously agreed that he be. presented with 10 gallons of petrol in recognition of his services. It was decided to- hold the annual regatta on Easter Saturday this year, and Messrs R. Jackson, W. S. Grenfell, and H. Paterson were given charge of the arrangements. The society expressed the hope that the visitors and residents would cooperate in its endeavour to preserve the beautiful surroundings of this popular seaside resort, and, with this end in view, respectfully requested crib owners, campers, and picnickers to refrain from easting refuse or rubbish on or near the track.
