WAKARI FLOWER SHOW

A SPLENDID DISPLAY The Wakari School's annual flower show took place on Saturday in the •school buildings. There were some outstanding individual displays, the most attractive of which were the floral exhibitions by ' Miss Rina Sonntag, the articles brought together by the children, and a special collection of fruit. The entries in all sections were fewer than last year, but this was balanced by the general high quality of the exhibits. Another outstanding display was that made by Mr C. Tweedie with pot plants The exhibition of dahlias, asters, carnations, sweet peas, hydrangea, roses, and marigolds was worthy of special mention, the blooms being well grown. The judge of the cut flowers (Mr W. Reid) said he was greatly imjuessed with the general quality of the display of flowers, particularly with regard to the sprays undo by the children. which showed taste and originality. The judge of the vegetable section (Mrs E. Page) said a fine range of quality was shown. All classes were well represented, and every species was well matured. Heavy cabbages were a feature of the section, the winning cabbage beiiig 1181 bin weight. In the children's section the display of vegetables,' fruit, cooking, and baking was a striking one, every exhibit being outstanding. In the industrial section .some very fine articles were exhibited, excellent workmanship being shown throughout. The baking, industries, and preserves sections were equally as attractive. These sections were judged by ladies from the Home Science Department of the Otago University. The whole exhibition reflected great credit on the School Committee, the school children, and the residents. The show was under the supervision, of the chairman of the School Committee (Mr C. J.
