AUTUMN FASHION NOTES MANTLES Coats—The tendency to reduce the length of coats has been adopted generally, but the difference is very slight and has not exceeded more than one to one and a-half inches. The line of coats is very consistent. A good fitting style with a rather, close fitting waist will easily be the most favoured. Collar interest is of the greatest importance. In most cases these are of material trimmed with fur. This innovation will be an outstanding feature of the season. All flat typos of fur collars will be in demand. Pintucking for decorating coats is particularly favoured this season, and is stressed chiefly on the sleeves. This form of decoration is utilised for nearly every grade of coat. Materials —At. the commencement of the season, smooth-faced types of materials wijl be popular, changing later on to coarse grained Tweeds. In Colours— Black and Navy should meet with equal favour, followed closely by Nigger. Wine tones will be more popular than tones of Green. DRESSES DAY AND NIGHT Wool Frocks will be exceptionally popular, the most noticeable and important feature being tone and tone effects—contrast trimmings not being called for. It has been necessary to create interesting and pleasing trimming innovations, such as cleverly minipulated sleeves, considerable pleating and pin-tucking and unique and unusual exotic types of decoration. Silk Frocks— ln the majority of these frocks the interest centres chiefly in the type of materials used. Evening Wear —Tinselled cloths of all descriptions will become the strong feature of tho season. In Colours —White should be the most popular and bo in equal demand to Pastel shades of Blues and Pinks. Black, of course, will retain its usual prominence. Tones of Purples, Wines, and Dark Greens will also be adopted. NEW HATS HOIST ANY WARDROBE INTO FASHION Ornaments, feathers, and wisps of veils have staged a comeback, and it can be said of the new models at the D.S.A. that they are different without being silly. Although these frivolous titbits may give our masculine critics plenty of material for comments, caustic as well as complimentary, these same interested men will end up by enthusiastically agreeing with the hat owners, that the new chapeaux are the peak of sophistication and flattery.
