BOWS INJURED

LINER COLLIDES WITH COLLIER THE LATTER BEACHED [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, March 1. While proceeding down the River Thames to take on her passengers at the commencement of her voyage to New Zealand, the Shaw, Savill, and Aibion liner Akaroa, which arrived from London on Saturday, was involved in a collision with a collier, the London Power Company’s steamer Colonel Crompton, of 1,495 tons. The small steamer was struck on the port side, and was beached with the assistance of a' tug. The bows of the Akaroa were damaged. The impact was a severe one, and although distinctly felt by those on board, it was not sufficient to throw them off their feet. The Akaroa went into dock at Tilbury, where the plates in her bows were replaced, a delay of only two days being caused. None of the passengers had joined at the time of the collision. They were notified of the delay and went aboard at Tilbury after repairs had been completed. The engine room of the Colonel Crompton was flooded, hut the vessel was subsequently repaired.
