The French Chamber of Deputies ratification of the Soviet Pact has roused a storm in Berlin.
“ A flagrant breach of the Treaty of Locarno,” declared the German Government’s official spokesman. The ‘ Volkischer Beobachtcr ’ declares that Locarno’s essential guarantees are being set aside. The ‘ Daily Mail’s Paris correspondent says political circles think that Germany, within a few days, will officially announce that she considers the pact incompatible with Locarno. Her next more is expected to be either a pronouncement that she is now entitled to garrison the demilitarised Rhineland Zone or a demand for a fresh meeting of the Locarno Powers to consider the new situation.
The Berlin correspondent of the ‘ Daily Express ’ suggests that Herr Hitler may wait and, see whether the French Senate confirms the Chamber's vote. If it does, it is believed that Herr Hitler will summon the Reichstag, German troops simultaneously marching into the demilitarised zone.
