The stratophere is giving up , its ■ecrets, and weather forecasts will be improved by information gathered from the “ dome of the atmosphere.” Small balloons rise to 10 miles in the atmosphere, and automatically make recordings. Each has a small vacuum flask which opens at a certain height, collects a..sample of the air, reseals itself, and returns to earth by parachute. Already (says the ‘ Sunday Express ’) these detectives of the upper air have proved that beyond an altitude of eight or nine miles above Europe the, temperature begins to rise again and there is a region where the temperatures are at “ heat-wave ” levels throughout the yearl
