INTEREST IN DIET
“ One of the most remarkable things of our generation has been the way in which people have begun to take an interest in diet,” said Mr Oliver Stanley, president of the British Board of Education, in a recent address. “Wo used to think it faddish, but I believe we have come to realise, as I saw it well put the other day, that ‘ more than one half of the chronic complaints which embitter the middle and latter part of life are due to avoidable errors in diet.’ ” The best place 'to learn about diet was in the cookery room, and this, like the handicraft room, called for much expense and highly-skilled training on the part of the teacher. In the past 15 years they had been witnessing a change of attitude and outlook in education. If this new spirit, with its emphasis on practical subjects and on individual means of teaching, was to have full play, it called for a new type of school.
