Won by one length ; one and a-half. Time, linin 60sec. In the Highweight on the first day reference was made to Cooper (the rider of Johnny) allegedly leaving the lead bag in the scales room. It is since stated to have been the trainer’s fault, he having left the bag in the saddling paddock. (Received February 27, at 2 p.m.) The going was good for the gallops at Caulfield this morning. On the course proper, 2oft out, Regular Bachelor and Cluniac did five furlongs ia Imin 2sec. Great Legend did five furlongs in Imin 2sec, the last four in 49sec. On the steeplechase grass next to the rails Closing Time equalled the course record of four furlongs in 48sec. Palm Nabob did four furlongs in 49sec. Liraond Lad and High Meadow did five fulongs in Imin 2see, and Dark Sky six furlongs in Imin 14Jsee, Bcechwood assisting over the last four, which were covered in 48|sec. Ilium did three furlongs in 38see. Heroic Prince did the best seven furlongs in Imin Aitchengee covered 10 furlongs in 2min 12isec. Palfresco went the same distance in 3min 17isec. the last four in SOJsee. Cuddle raced over a mile on the sand in. Imin 60sec, covering the last three in 37Jsec, and went well. Page is a possibility for the Scottish Rugby Union team against England on March 21, recalling that Page narrowly missed selection when at Sandhurst. POOLS AND FIXTURES. Replying to the threat of the club’s legal action about, delaying fixtures, the secretary of the Football League said there was a much easier method. The remedy lay with the clubs themselves. All that was necessary was for half of the members to call a special meeting of the league as provided by the rules when anv previous decision could bo rescinded. The League’s Management Committee meets on Sunday to discuss the whole business. The chairmen of Leeds United, Stoke City, and Manchester City circularised all the league clubs, calling a meeting at Leeds on March 2 to discuss the whole question of pools and football fixtures.
