NATIONAL WORKERS' MOVEMENT The general meeting of the Dunedin branch of the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement was held in the Trades Hall on Tuesday evening. Cr M. Silverstone (president) presided over a fair attendance of members. Correspondence from the Minister of Employment (Hon. H. T. Armstrong), Labour Bureau, Dunedin, and other organisations was read and dealt with. The organising report that 42 new members had joined was considered satisfactory. Both of the remits sent on from the executive to the general meeting were • endorsed. An important circular on the unemployed question in New Zealand was read from the National Executive in Wellington. It was agreed to send on information received from camps to the secretary of the New Zealand Workers’ Union. The following resolution was carried unanimously:—‘‘That the Dunedin branch of the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement, representing 700 of the ‘organised unemployed of this city, urges the Government to follow the lead of the Dunedin City Council in granting the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement recognition as the official 8 organisation of unemployed workers in New Zealand.” Complaints were received from some of the groups and left in the secretary’s hands to deal with. The secretary was instructed to take up with the Minister of Health (Hon. P. Fraser) the matter of the dental facilities for the children of unemployed attending denominational schools.
