The * Daily Telegraph’s ’ _ Moscow correspondent says: ‘ ‘ The eighteenth birthday of the Red Army was celebrated by sweeping claims of invincibility on land and in the air. Moreover, the naval programme ensures that Russia will soon be as strong on the sea. The ‘ Pravda ’ declares that the Soviet is ready to fight both Japan and Germany single handed. Even the railways, which hitherto have been regarded as the weakest point in Russia’s defences, are now described as the army’s twin brother, ready to handle all the strategic problems. Admiral Yoruikhimovich, commandant of the navy, says the coasts are now impregnable.”
