Major Duff-Cooper (Secretary of State for War) said that just over £400,000 was spent last year on the purchase of Dominion frozen meat for the Army and Air Force, and at home £2,000 on the purchase of fresh meat. The extra cost of supplying home-killed instead of Dominion meat was estimated to be about £350,000 a year, which, apart from administrative difficulties, was prohibitive as far as the Army funds were concerned.
