CONFERENCE CONTINUED Further remits were considered at to-day’s session of the annual conference of the New Zealand Federation of Master Plumbers, Mr T. W. Knox presiding. A remit submitted by the federation —“ That consideration be given to the question of strengthening the federation and increasing the membership of the various affiliated local associations throughout .the Dominion ” —was discussed.

The incoming executive was empowered to undertake the_ reorganisation in a number of districts, in particular Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, Masterton, Nelson, and Timaru. A Dominion organiser is to be appointed to carry out this work, and also to strengthen the federation in the main centres.

The following remit from the Wellington Association—“ That the New Zealand Institute of Architects be recommended to more clearly itemise specifications concerning plumbing work ” was dealt with, and the incoming executive was instructed to approach the New Zealand Institute of Architects and recommend that specifications should more clearly itemise details of the plumbing, work in contracts, and that special plumbing specifications be drawn up. After discussion it was decided to approach other organisations of sub-contractors with a view to having improvements made to the specifications of work. The Wanganui Association submitted the following remit:—“That conference discuss the gazetting of outside sanitary areas, and the question of unlicensed plumbers and others doing sanitary work in these areas.” It was decided to urge upon the Government the necessity of gazetting many of _ the rural areas throughout the Dominion in the Health Act, in order that conditions of sanitation and disposal of sewage in private houses in the country might be improved.
