DARING ROBBERY
ARMED ESODRT ATTACKED BANDITS ESCAPE WITH £I,BOO ■ ' i Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, January 31. Two bandits shot an armed escort in the head in the city early this evening, and escaped with a bag containing £I,BOO. The escort, James Scnven, ageclyt, is in hospital in a critical condition. The hold-up was most daring, and took place in a crowded street-* Scriven was entering a. taxi, in which a clerk from the office of the controller of stamps was seated with the money bag between his feet. After the shooting the bandits seized the bag and escaped in a car driven by a third man. The taxi driver pursued the car, which was soon lost in the traffic. The money was the day’s takings at the stamps office.
