PIG IMPROVEMENT
NATIONAL LEVY SCHEME PROPOSED [Special to the * Star.*] WELLINGTON, February 1. The Minister of Agriculture (Hon. W. Lee Martin) has under consideration a proposal from the New Zealand Pie Breeders’ Association for a national levy scheme on the production of pigs, with the object of extending the work originated by various pigrecording _ clubs in the North Island. The aim is to improve the breeds and secure the best carcasses for export requirements. The Minister informed your correspondent that the whole proposal is being investigated,- and he regards the plan sympathetically owing to the need foF improvement and the fostering of the industry, if the export business is to be built up on sound lines. He was appreciative of the work done by existing pig recording clubs, and hopes t» see an extension of such activities.
