THE OMNISCIENT VOICE
M. Mandel, French Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, has added an Admirable Crichton Department to the Paris telephone system.. On dialling “S.V.P ” a friendly but respectful voice will be only too glad to tell you tho exact distance between Peking and Paris, or to give you the date of M. Laval’s birthday, or the size of the Budget deficit. About theatres and music halls the Voice is a mine of information, and will advise you where to go and get you your seats as well. Tlie Voice will reserve a table for you at an attractive restaurant after you have made sure, that the price of the table d’hote is within your purse, and if some friends burst unexpectedly upon you the Voice will order prepared food to be brought to your home with such wines as you may fancy. As for such things as medical attendance, the hours of departure or arrival of trains, steamships, or aeroplanes, the Voice will deal with them before you have had time to replace the receiver (says the Paris correspondent of ‘ The Times’). “The cost of a question,” adds the Voice, “ is only one franc.”
