GRETA GARBO'S PLANS
STAR CONVALESCING (3reta Garbo, the famous Swedish film star, will not return to America at the end of this month, according to a recent cable. Garbo, who went to Sweden to visit her parents and spend an _ old-fashioned Christmas, suffered serious lung trouble, and for some considerable time was in grave danger. She is now reported to be recovering, however, but it will be some time before she is able to resume work. By the terms of her contract she was due back in Hollywood at the end of January. In recent times Garbo has not done a great amount of work, and she is reported as having met with several accidents, the, most serious being when she fell from the mast of a yacht. Garbo has a large following, and a staunch one. Many people consider her the best actress in the world, a’nd are prepared to argue that point at considerable length. Her return was being eagerly awaited, as her most enthusiastic “ fans ” considered she would not be long in proving to all and sundry that she was an even -greater actress than the admittedly great Bergner.
As matters stand now. the “ fans ’’ will have to wait. Garbo’s latest film, the version of Tolstoy’s ‘Anna Karenina,’ will be shown in Dunedin shortly. Whether the lung trouble is as serious as the cable would lead one to believe is a question that cannot be answered at this distance, but all picture-goers will hope that Garbo is speedily res:'red to health and back in work again as soon as possible.
