Jan Kiepura lias started demonstrating his powers as a linguist by setting a Hollywood record for the translating of songs. He is using only three of the seven languages at his command; but even this number is larger than has ever before emanated from a film city sound stage. Thus, when Kiepura appears on the screen in his first American picture ‘ Give Us This Night,' he will be singing in English, French, and Spanish editions. There have been two-language versions of many pictures in the past, but this marks the first time that three of the world’s most widely-used tongues are incorporated in a single picture. This concerns only the singing. The-dialogue will all be in English. • * • • In 1 Three Kids and a Queen ’ May Robson brings off one of the greatest performances of her long career. Even .Walter Wiuchell, that outstanding gossiper of New York, coined a new phrase about the picture. “It has applaudience appeal,” he said. Imagine May Robson kidnapped and playing cards with the gangsters, who have her under ransom. Also imagine her living among the slums of New York, a wealthy millionairess who cannot find happiness except in the bosom of the common people of Hell’s Kitchen. Think of the attempts of avaricious relatives to deprive her of her wealth in an inquiry into her sanity, held before the court. These are only a few incidents from this remarkable show.
