CHAMPIONSHIP ARRANGEMENTS The Otago Surf Association met on Monday evening in the St. Clair Life Saving Club’s pavilion, When further arrangements towards the forthcoming national surf championships were completed. Mr J. L. M'lndoe was in the chair, there being also present Messrs j J. R. Callender, H. D. Gillies, A. Findlay, J. Pereira, A. Thomas, G. „0. Wootton, A. G. Beadle, and the hon. secretary (Mr J. M. Rodgerson). It was decided to forward the following nominations for officials to Wellington for approval:—Referee, Mr J. L, M'lndoe j assistant referee, Mr.J. R. Callender; assistant marshal, Mr A. J. Kingsland; starter,, Mr D. T. Woodfield: timekeepers—Messrs A. Greig, J. R. Rodgerson, T. Fogg, F. J. Townsend. A. Thomas, and T. P. Williamson; recording secretary, Mr J. L. Turnbull; teams position stewards, Messrs _J. Pereira and A. Thomas; competitors’ stewards Messrs G. Wootton, D. Newall. A. Idour, A. Findlay, and M. Goodwin. The following social programme was drawn up:Friday, February 21.—Bus trip for visiting teams and officials around Otago Peninsula, to start at 2.30. Evening free. ’ Saturday, 1 February. 22.—Pictures and dance to be arranged. Smoke concert in St. Clair Club’s pavilion. Sunday, February 23.—Tea. at Hydro, St. Clair, at 5.30 and presentation ofprizes. In connection with the art union being run by the association Mr Pereira offered to sell tickets in the street on Friday, February 7. Mr Pereira’s offer was accepted with thanks, and it was decided to apply to the town clerk for permission to erect a small stand at the H.B. Corner and to sell tickets there. Mr M. Tdour’s offer to place a motor truck at the disposal of the association during the running of .the championships was accepted with thanks. The truck will be used for the cartage of reels and gear to and from the station. As surf conditions had unfortunately necessitated the cancelling of the sixman event at the Otago surf championships held last week-end ait Oreti. it was decided to award the competition, and ■ shield to whichever club' gained highest place in the final of the Nelsbn Shield contest at the national .surf., championships next month, hut only , if. both clubs, (Oreti arid St. Clair ) enter the final. , The secretary was empowered to fur. nish the average markings should any club ask for the judges’ points in any interclub competition. It was decided to advise the secretary of the Otago division of_ the New Zealand branch, British Medical; Association, that the hoisting of a yellow flag on the flagpoles of club pavilions requested medical assistance from any doctor who might be in the vicinity, and in order to attract attention to the flag three strokes of the alarm bell 1 would be given prior to hoisting.
