THE FORBURY PARK MEETING. The Summer Meeting of the Forhury Park Trotting Club commences at 12.30 on Thursday, and it is,many years since such keen interest has been shown in this fixture. Llewellyn s Pride’s success at Addington last Saturday has brought him into the considerations for the Dunedin Cup, and he is reported to be an improving horse.! Those are the sort to follow, and though the Indianapolis-Tempest bracket will be favourite, backmarkers on the Forbury track have always got to have a certain amount of luck with them. The fields for the other seven events are good, and the club s patrons are promised a great afternoon of high-class racing. On Saturday afternoon, when Indianapolis makes his attempt on the mile record, A. E. Oldham will ride the pacemaker, which will probably be the steeplechaser Urntali. .JOTTINGS. Nominations for the Dunedin Jockey Club’s Autumn Meeting close at 5 p.m. to-morrow. Acceptances for the Tapanui,. Meeting close at 8 p.m. to-morrow. Drinkup, who has done well since the holiday meeting, was much too good for Aro Arc over six furlongs on the course proper in Imin 21 4-ssec. Golden King and Salmo Salar were sent over seven furlongs, but the pace was only on over the last half-mue, which they ran in 56 4-ssec. Rebel Chief# pulled up badly after each of his races at Trentham last week, and it is unlikely that he will be. seen at the Dunedin Cup Meeting. While only one yearling at Trentham ibis year topped l,ooogs, against three last January, , there were thirteen which realised 500 gs or more, compared with nine a year ago. High Glee, looking very bright and well, was cantered round to the threefurlong peg on the tan track, and sprinted home from there in 36 4-ssec. The unnamed filly in Shaw’s stable, by Pink Coat from Delicious, easily beat Draw Lad over half a mile in 57 l-ssec. Master Anomaly, who failed to return to form this season, has been turned out for a short spell. He is likely to be brought in again for the up-country meetings at Easter time. Shock easily held Gambler’s Luck in a run over half a mile in 51sec. The former is very well just now, and will be a starter in the High-weight Handicap at Tapanui next week. 1 Indianapolis, who was coupled with Cloudy Range in the Craven Handjcap on Saturday, was driven by his trained, F. C. Dunlevey. He had not even a remote chance of success from 108 behind, and was not driven out. It is 'reported that Mr L. C. Hazlett has purchased Blue Metal and intends trying him out as a hurdler. Blue Metal has already shown ability to jump, and with his speed he should he useful as a hurdler. Lumiere, the two-year-old by Robespierre from Limelight, has fulled olit into a sturdy filly. She sprinted three furlongs on the tan this morning in 41sec, and was going very easily at the finish. Final Bell just headed Linguist at the end of five furlongs in Imin 7 4-ssec. Counterflight joined in over the last three furlongs, but was not able to go with the other two at any part of the journey. Royal Pal, whose track form has been much better than his work in races this season, is to be given a to make good over hurdles. This morning he~ was sent oyer four of the schooling hurdles, and jumped fast and cleverly. Valarth and Costume (Pink Coat) were sent five) furlongs on the course proper this morning, the trestles being about 40ft out from the rails, and refistered Imin 9 3-ssec. Costume will ave her first race at the Tapanui Meeting next week. Dodge, who showed good form in the early part of the season and won £250 in stakes on Canterbury courses for Mr R. Mee, has been turned out for a spell. He was troubled with wind galls, and rather than take any risk on the firm tracks his trainer eased him up. Jaunt has been taken in hand again after a lengthy spell, and in the interval has built up into a big horse. He was schooled over tlje brush double in front of the stand this morning, and, as usual, jumped very attractively. He will be a starter in the steeplechases at Winton next month. Daring Deed, Pala Melba, and Te 'Ahuarangi were companions in a mile gallop this morning on the outside of the course proper, and finished in that order, the first-named having an easy win in Imin 51 3-ssec. Pala Melba hung on well, but Te Ahuarangi began to drift at the top of the straight and was badly beaten. On the second day of the Vincent Meeting Trivet carried lOst and won the Lochella Cup, an open race run over 10 furlongs. In the Tapanui Handicap, a race for horses that have never won a stake of £l2O, Trivet lias been awarded lOst in a field of hacks. The favourable treatment meted out to Trivet will not help to secure many acceptors. Mary Pratt had 9.4 when she won the Valley Hack Handicap, 6f, by two lengths on the second day of the Vincent Meeting, and beat a better field than she is set to meet in the Dwyer Memorial or Stewards’ Handicap at Tannnui next week. In the former she has list, and in the six-fnrlong race 9.2. blither, or perhaps . both races, look like “ money from home ” for her.

TROTTING

Jan. 30. Feb. I.—Forburj Park T.C. Feb. 5, B.—Wellington T.C. Feb. 15.—Canterbury Park T.C. Fob. 15, 17, —Auckland T.C. Feb. 22.— New Brighton T.C. March 6, 7. —Invercargill T C. March 7.—Wellington T.C. March 14.—Timaru T.C. March 18.—Wyndham T.C. March 21.—Taranaki T.C. March 23.—Roxburgh T.CMarch 28.—Wanganui T.C. March 28.—Cheviot T.C. April 4.—Wanganui T.C. April 11, 13.—Hawera T.C. April 11, 14.—N.Z. Metropolitan T.C.

The conditions attached to the Tapanui Handicap provide that horses that have not won a stake exceeding £l2O to the winner at the time of starting. Shock having won the Farewell Hanch cap at the Christmas meeting at Wingatui, which was worth £139 to the winner, was never eligible for this race, and Honest Maid, having won the Wairio Cup, £125 to the winner, is also ineligible now.

Though Trivet has now won 15 races and £1,528 in stakes, she is still eligible to take her place in the field for the Tapanui Handicap next week. The most valuable race Trivet has won was the llusseley Plate as a two-year-old. The Stake was £l5O, less £25 and £lO, making her owner’s share £lls, and the conditions of the Tapanui Handicap make all horses that have not won a stake of £l2O to the winner eligible. Argentic appears to have had enough racing for a while. He was favourably placed a furlong from home in the Summer Handicap on Saturday, hut could not survive the pressure. This gelding .has had a strenuous time over long journeys since he contested the New Zealand Cup in November last.

Graham Direct showed a disinclination to face the barrier at the start of the Craven Handicap at Addington on Saturday, but at the release of the tapes he moved off smartly. Before he had gone two furlongs he broke badly, and was not afterwards prominent. He was a warm favourite, and his effort was anything but encouraging, in view of immediate engagements.

Some time ago Mr G. J. Barton purchased in America a two-year-old colt by Mr AUElwyn, Imin 69isec, from a mare by Daystar, 2min ssec. The youngster is now in Wellington, and will later go into P. C. Dunlevey’s stable at Addington. The colt, which is reported to have taken a matinee record of 2min lOsec, is bred on the same lines as Gallant Knight, who is by Mr M’Elwyn—Etta Day, by Daystar.

There was some disappointment that the young sire, lliac! ? had only one colt representative in this year’s sales. It was announced, however, before the draft was submitted, Ahat with the exception of the colt from Sweet Charity, bought for West Australia, all the IlHad colts at Elderslie were, owned by individual shareholders, who. in each case intended to race, and not to sell them. This information was well received, as it is a desired step in the direction of the cream of New Zealands thoroughbreds being raced in the Dominion and not being disposed of to Australia.

The Japanese have recently taken up racing, with their characteristic gusto, and the most successful sire there is Shian Mor, who was third in the English Derby of 1927. Last year the Japanese secured the successful racehorse Raymond, winner of the Cambridgeshire of 1933, the price being reported as £7,000. Advice has now been, received that Air Clarence Hailey has secured for export to Japan the stallion Statesman, who is by Blandford from Dail, and is therefore own brother to the Elderslie Stud Company’s new sire Solicitor-General. The purchase price is not stated.
