HOMESTEAD DESTROYED
GUTTED DURING OWNER'S ABSENCE [Pee United Press Association.] PAHIATUA, January 28. A well-known farmer, Charles Albert Beetham, of Pori, paid a visit to relatives at Masterton on Wednesday, and was horrified on his return on Sunday evening to find his homestead a mass of smoking ruins. Nobody- was left in charge of the house, which was seen by a neighbour to be intact at 5 o’clock on Saturday evening. It was situated back in the hills, and it would be difficult for the flames to be seen. It is thought that the fire occurred during Saturday night. The house is insured by the State Office for £760, and the effects for £IOO in the same office.
