APPARENT SLIGHT ON MAYOR
COMPELLED TO LEAVE MEMORIAL SERVICE UNABLE TO FIND SEATS [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 27. Because of the unexpectedly large congregation which attended the memorial service to the King in St. Paul’s Pro-Cathedral on Sunday the Mayor of Wellington (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) and Mrs Hislop did find seats. Accordingly they left * the church before the service began. Reference to the incident was made by the mayor at the conclusion of a special meeting of the City Council to-day. “ I got to the church 10 minutes before the service was due to commence,” said Mr Hislop. “ There was some difficulty about accommodation, and we wore unable to get further than the door on account of the crowd. Other members of the City Council were there, and similarly were unable to find seats. We were all anxious to pay our respects to the memory of the King, but could not get in. 1 had no course left but to go away.”
