RETIRES FROM SCREEN ACTING TO CONTINUE FILM PRODUCING Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK, January 8. Douglas Fairbanks announces that he will never act for the screen again. Ho will continue producing films, however,. the first being ‘ Marco Polo,’ which ho has been planning for seven years. For tho past 19 years Douglas Fairbanks has been one of tho outstanding personalities on the American screen. Born in Denver, Colorado; on May 23, 1883, ho made his first appearance on
the stage in New York in 1901, and starred in ‘ Hawthorne of the U.S.A.’ 4 Frenzied Finance,’ ‘ All For a Girl,’ ‘ A Gentleman From Mississippi,’ 4 The Cub,’ ‘ Gentleman of Leisure,’ 4 Comes Up Smiling,’ 1 Henrietta,’ and 4 Show Shop.’ In 1916 he branched into the film business, being head of his own producing company and the leading player. Among his great productions were: 4 His Majesty, the American,’ 4 When the Clouds Roll By,’ 4 f(Che Mollycoddle,’ 4 The Mark of Zorro,’ 4 The Nut,’ 4 The Three Musketeers,’ 4 Robin Hood,’ 4 The Thief of Bagdad,’ 4 Don Q, Son .of Zorro,’ 4 The Black Pirate,’ 4 The Gaucho,’ 4 The Iron Mask,’ and 4 The Taming of the Shrew.’ He was first married to. Miss Ann Beth Sully, from when lie was divorced in 1918, and two years later he married the 44 world’s sweetheart,” Mary Pickford, who secured a divorce a year or two ago.
