PROFITABLE HOLIDAY BUSINESS [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 3. Post Office statistics for the four main centres, made available to-day, show that the number of bags of mail matter (excluding parcels),.originating in the four main centres over the recent Christmas period, was 24,702, compared with 22,755 for the Christmas period of 1934. The figures, for the various centres for the period of December 17 to December 23 inclusive are:— Parcels posted. Auckland 8,199 Christchurch ... ... 6,827 Dunedin ... 4,159 Wellington ... 10,711 Total 29,896 —Dags of Mail Forwarded.— Auckland 7,856 Christchurch 4,761 Dunedin 3,366 Wellington 8,710 —Postage Stamp Sales.— Auckland £2,201 Christchurch 2,895 Dunedin' 1,394 Wellington 2,740 Total ... ... ... £9,230 The total number of telegrams lodged at the four main, centres on Christmas Eve shows an increase of nearly 20 per cent, on last year.
