PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ TENNIS

HENLEY'S OUTSTANDING RECORD WINS THREE TITLES OUT OF FOUR Displaying careful tuition and a less perturbable temperament, three pupils of the Henley School collected three of the four championships in the third annual primary schools’ tennis tournament, which was concluded , at Logan Park this morning. Honours were secured by M. Keith in the girls’ singles and C. Geary in the boys’ singles, while, partnered by L. Kloogh, the latter was also in the winning boys’ doubles combination. All players were a credit to their instructor, Mr G. A. Spears. The girls’ doiibles title was carried off by the North-east Harbpur scholars, M. Blair and A. Marett. Fourteen eliminating games were required to complete the tournament today. In the semi-final of the girls’ singles between M. Keith (Henley) and M. Henderson (Maori Hill) one of the best games of tlie competition was witnessed, and it seemed as though the better player were beaten by the faultless steadiness of the Henley girl, who continued to return everything in the final to win a love set. The scores seesawed in the girls’ doubles final to 4 all, when M. Biair arid A. ; Marett (North-east Harbour) rallied in the last two games to defeat M. Gibb and D. Peterson (North-east Valley), after long volleys and good tennis on both, sides., C. Geary (Henley) played a steady, heady game in the final of . the boys’ singles, keeping his opponent (J; Craig, Kensington) on the run and gaining the verdict with .four games to spare. He and L. Kloogh made a difficult combination for Craig and A. Graham (Kensington) to face in the doubles final, in which some clever shots were produced, and the runners-up performed well to snatch three games. Results:—
