YOUNG MAN COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE Pleading guilty to a charge of forging a withdrawal notice at Outran! tor it 4s 2d on the Post Office Savings Bank account of R. G. Telfer, with intent that it should bo acted on as genuine, Hugh Allen M‘Kay (27), represented by Mr C. A. Hamer, was committed for sentence at the conclusion of the Police Court hearing before Mr if. VV. Bundle, S.M., yesterday afternoon. Eobert G. Telfer said ho was employed on a farm near Momona, and Jived in a hut near the owner’s house. In July last M'Kay was also employed on the farm, and shared the hut with witness. At this time witness had an account in the Post Office Savings Bank showing a credit of £1 4s 2d. The passbook was kept in witness’s trunk in tho hut. and after the .accused had left the farm witness missed it. He reported his loss to the postmistress at Allanton,

and was subsequently shown a withdrawal slip bearing his name, but ho had not signed, nor authorised anyone to sign. George Lawson Gill, who had been acting as _ relieving telegraphist at Outram, said that on August 1 a man had come to the Post Office and asked for a telegraphic withdrawal form, which he filled in for £1 4s 2d. Witness could not identify the accused as tho man who had procured the form. Detective Russell gave details of an interview with the accused, who made a statement admitting the offence. Tho accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supremo Court for sentence, bail being allowed in his own recognisance of £25 on condition that he reports .daily to the police.
