VAN DRIVER'S REMARKABLE ESCAPE [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, December 10A remarkable escape from serious injury ivas experienced by a boot retailer, Frederick William Stone, of Mount Eden. when a light van which he was driving was struck by a suburban train at the level crossing at Glen Eden. The motor vehicle was spun completely round and carried 30ft, but Stone, who was the sole occupant, escaped with burns to the hands and minor cuts on the face. The motor van burst into flames, and the petrol tank exploded with a report that could be heard some distance away.
