ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY'S CONCERT

For the final concert of the season to-morrow evening, a programme of excellent items has been selected. These include the ‘ Rosamunde ’ overture by Schubert, suite ‘ Sigurd Jorsalfar,’ by Grieg, the A minor piano concerto (Grieg), (with Mr Max Scherek as solo pianist), two sections from Mauric* Besly’s ‘ Chelsea China ’ suite, Dr R, Vaughan Williams’s ‘English Folk Song ’ suite, and Percy _ Grainger’s ‘ Spoon River,’ with solo pianoforte by Mr Max Scherek. The assisting artists are Miss Ethel Wallace and_ Mr Alfred Walmsley. Miss Wallace will play ths meditation from ‘Thais’ (Messenet), accompanied by the orchestra, and the first movement of Grieg’s violin sonata in 0 minor (accompanied by Mrs H. C. Campbell). Mr Walmsley will sing the aria ‘ Almighty Lord and Father,’ from ‘Le Cid ’ (Massenet), and a group of two songs by T. Vernon Griffiths —‘ The Coasts of High Barbary ’ (an arrangement of a Somerset ” folk song) and ‘ And Shall Trclawny Die?’ (a setting of verses by R. S. Hawker)., The box plan is advertised.
