M‘Cabe batted brightly, while O’Brien and Darling were never comfortable facing Robertson, a slow right hand off break bowler.

Almost every batsman who attempted liberties with Robertson’s apparently simple deliveries paid the penalty. He is now almost certain to he chosen for the first test,

Western Province opened its second innings disastrously, and the side never recovered; Bond _ played _ perfect cricket. The Australians’ fielding was brilliant, and Barnett’s wicketkeeping was faultless. Pleetwood-Smith again had all the Africans guessing, and finished with fine figures.
