RANFURLY SHIELD
OTAGO CHALLENGES CANTERBURY The Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Union last night decided to challenge for the Ranfurly Shield, which was won by Canterbury from Auckland in the match last Saturday. Otago’s match with Canterbury is arranged for Saturday, September 21, the game being the last of the Otago team’s northern tour. Prior to that date Canterbury will meet Wanganui, Wairarapa, Southland, West Coast, and South Canterbury at Christchurch, and it is possible the shield may have changed hands before the Otago game takes place—that is, provided Canterbury accepts challenges from all the other teams. Challenges must be lodged before the end. of August. An Ashburton Press Association telegram states that the Ashburton Rugby Union last evening decided to enter a challenge for a match for the Ranfurly Shield.
