OBITUARY

CAPTAIN F. A. HEBLOP The death, of Captain Frederick Albert Clayton. Heslop, R.N.R., in. his 52nd year took place at Dunedin yesterday. At an early age he went to sea, and had his initial training with the Shaw, SavilL and Albion Company, in whose ships he traded to Australia and New Zealand. After-serving with this company for 10 years he joined up with the U.S.S. Company. Ltd. and was a well-known figure on a number of this company’s ships along the coast and in the intercolonial trade. He was

one of the selected officers who was sent Home to bring out the_ express steamer Wahine, which arrived "in New Zealand in May, 1913. About 14 years ago he returned to England and joined up with the United Molasses Company Ltd., having command of several of its oil tankers. His last command was the company’s largest tanker, the Athelregent, which arrived at Wellington in January last with crude oil for the U.S.S. Company. Feeling much below par on his arrival in Wellington, he consulted a specialist, who ordered him to leave his snip. He did so, and came to Dunedin and stayed with very old friends, and passed away at their home. The captain had a fine war record. He enlisted with the N.Z.E.F. in 1914, and after training for some time at Trentham he went Home and joined up with the Navy. He received his commission as lieutenant, R.N.R., in June, 1915, and from then on was in charge of a division of armed trawlers in the North Sea, Mediterranean Sea, and the iEgean Sea.
