Perreau, the first baker, was, operated on for acute appendicitis by the ship’s doctor. Dr C. S. Laurence, assisted by Dr Luckie, physician,' of Pasadena. Dr E. B. Reilly, a Christchurch dentist, gave the anaesthetic. The .operation was performed in the ship’s nursery. The ship was slowed down. Perreau made a good recovery.
