BOXING

AMATEUR TOURNAMENT ARRANGED A meeting of the executive of the Otago Boxing Association was held last night, there being present Messrs R. Stuart Glendining (in the chair), J v Kilmartin, J. R. Glover, S. Brown, W. Stiglich, R. Morris, S. Larkins, W. Glengarry, W. Mowat. T. Long, Don Paterson, W. D. Wilson. A. M. Grainger, and the secretary (Mr R. 0. Johnson'. Before commencing the business the president (Mr R. 8. Glendining) welcomed Mr W. Mowat. who had been elected to fill the vacancy on the executive caused by the death of Mr P Huston.

The Match Committee reported that a large number of entries had been received for next week’s open amateur and notice tournament, hut that one or two of the trainers has still some late entries to send in. The secretary was instructed to book the Pioneer Hall for Wednesday, July 24 for this tournament.

The New Zealand Boxing Council advised that October 2,3, and 4 had been approved as the dates for the New Zealand amateur championships in Dunedin.

The Christian Brothers’ High School made application to hold its annual tournament at His Majesty’s Theatre on Tuesday, August 20, and requested the association’s officials to act. Permission was granted, the president remarking that this was usually a very fine 'tournament, and that the association would be only too pleased td assist. It was moved as a recommendation by the Match Committee, and adopted bv the meeting, that for the novice class in the forthcoming tournament the contests be limited to three twominute rounds. The matter of arranging an interprovincial tournament between Otago and Southland on August 24 was left in the bands of the president to make tentative arrangements.
