NATIONAL PROVIDENT AND PENSIONS.

TO TEX BDITOK. Sir,—Mr F. Jones and Mr W. York are to be commended for their valuable letters appearing in Thursday night’s ‘ Star.’ containing as they do much food for thought concerning a subject of which many people are in ignorance. I would advise anyone who did not see them to look them up and study the facts therein. Many will be surprised to learn that returned soldiers on economic pensions find themselves in a

similar position in that, should they happen to be members of a friendly society, they do not benefit by the lodge allowance after paying into the society for many years. For instance. I A and B are both entitled to an economic pension for exactly'the same disability. A receives, say, 20s, whilp B, 1

because of his previous wisdom in previous years. receives 15s only. Readers will see by this that the Tensions Department reaps the benefit to the extent of ss—not the one whom the • lodge intended it to benefit.—l am, I etc., Thomas Mobbis, [. July
