RUSSIA ORDERS SHIPS FROM BRITAIN. LONDON, July 18.—The ‘Daily Herald ’ says that the Soviet has ordered seven timber-carrying steamers for £400,000 cash from the Furness Shipbuilding Company. FIERCE STORM IN MELBOURNE. MELBOURNE, July 19.—A fierce gale is lashing Melbourne, The interstate liner Westralia, from Perth, was forced to anchor in the bay and send Rs passengers ashore in tugs. Damage was done on tho foreshore. Piers were damaged and small craft blown ashore. Fences were levelled in the suburbs. OBITUARY. > A Napier Association telegram records the death of Mr Robert Daniel Kelly, at one time chief postmaster at Wellington and Auckland.
