LOWER PRODUCTION AGREED TO Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyright MELBOURNE, June 27. The Federal Government is taking steps to strengthen the economic position of the Queensland sugar industry by reducing production. The chief sugar producing interests are co-operat-ing.* Lower production will be reflected in the next crop by approximately 70,000 tons. It is stated that the export price of sugar is well below the cost of production, while the proportion of the crop that must be exported unproiitably has been increasing. CANE CUTTERS’ STRIKE. BRISBANE, June 28. (Received June 28, at 10.5 a.m.) Following a compulsory conference on the strike of the sugar workers and a secret ballot being held, the men decided to resume work, and to refer the matters in dispute to the Industrial Court.
