WEATHER FORECAST
COLD AND SQUALLY The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meterological Office, Wellington, covering the southern district—-Dunedin, Port Chalmers,' Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riveri ton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— A secondary depression is now cross* ing the dominion, and the barometer is still considerably below normal, espe* dally in the south-and east. Forecast:' Strong westerly winds, backing again, to southerlies and increasing;. Weather cold and squally, with rain, and in; places, snow. Seas rough. , RAW AFTER BLACK FROST.
Snow and sleet fell for a time yes ter* day afternoon, but the storm did nob' develop seriously, and by dusk it was fine, though extremely cold. A black frost descended overnight, 3deg being recorded, and this morning was bitterly raw until the sun penetrated the low* lying haze shortly before noon. Thera was only a light south-westerly windy but the barometer was falling at 2d.3iny The midday temperature was 45.4deg,there being a minimum for the morning of 37.5 deg. For 24 hours Yesterday the readings were a maximum'of 42deg and a minimum of 33.2 deg. No rain wat recorded.
