DOMINION HARRIER TEAM
MR B. R. M'KERNAN A SELECTOR Advice has*'been- received that the Administration,. Committee :of the New Zealand Council last week decided to appoint. Mr'B.'’R, M‘Kernan, of Dunedin, and; Mr. C.H. Crokcr, of New Plymouth, as selectors of the New Zealand harrier team to compete in the Australian Cross-country Championship. The team will leave for Australia on Auugst 6 or 9. Mr M'Kernan is one of the bestknown men associated with amateur athletics and harrier running in the dominion, and has had a long connection with both sports as a competitor, official, and,coach. At the present time he represents the Civil Service Harrier and Amateur Athletic Club on the Otago Centre of the New Zealand 'Amateur Athletic Association, and is Otago’s sole selector both for track and field and cross-country teams. He has been manager .of Otago ,teams_ at New Zealand track and field championships, and also at the New Zealand Cross-country Championship.. He has been manager of the Civil Service team for every one of the five years it has won the teams honour in the Kennett *Cup steeplechase in Christchurch, and has also been responsible for the development of some of Otago’s best track and cross-country runners. Mr’ M'Kernan has also been nominated by Otago for the position of manager of the New Zealand team. The other selector, Mr C. H. Croker, is also an ex-Otago man, and many years ago sprang one of the biggpst surprises in the history of the race when, as a ■ representative of the Southern Bible Class Club, he won the Otago Cross-country Championship.
