CRUEL CHARGES
JURY DECLARE TEACHER INNOCENT GIRLS' ALLEGATIONS OF ASSAULT * [Per United Press Association.] ' , WELLINGTON, May 11. Without retiring, the jury in tn« case of Herbert John Craig Parker, 4 teacher in Petone Central School, re» turned a verdict _of not guilty on' eight charges of indecent assault on girl pupils in February last. Evidence was given by eight girls of the alleged, acts, which they stated had occurred mainly during the read* ing lessons and the checking andinarw ing of lessons. Five other girls whn had been in Parker’s class the premoui year also gave evidence. - - ■ The defence was a complete demal.The head master, Robert Cole, said the statements of some of the witnessed ~ were unreliable, and he was thoroughly; convinced that the charges were no* true. * Giving the jury’s verdict, the fore* man said they were unanimously of opinion that Parker was innocent.
