THE MAYORALTY

OFFttIAL COUNT COMPLETED MR COX'S MAJORITY INCREASED The official count of the votes cast for the mayoralty in the city, completed this morning, has revealed an increase in the majority for the Rev. E. T. Cox as provisionally announced oii Wednesday night, the figures being: Rev. E. T. Cox 12,215 Mr J. J, Marlow 10,425 Mr E. S. Black 5,268 Majority for Mr Cox ... 1,190 Informal -10 The results announced on Wednesday were: Rev. E. T. Cox, 12,077; Mr J. J. Marlow, 10,406; Mr R. S. Black, 5,210; informal, 300. The official count has given all three candidates an increase, due to errors in additions in the booths and to the addition to each of a small number of declaratory votes. The number of informal votes has been decreased, some of which were provisionally disallowed being allowed. The official counts of the voting in the elections for city councillors and members of the Harbour Board and Hospital Board will probably be completed by Tuesday. RECOUNT AT ST. KILDA ONLY MINOR CHANGES REVEALED Completed to-day, the recounting of the votes in the St. Kilda Borough election revealed no change of any consequence among the mayoral candidates, but- in the council poll there were some substantial alterations, though only among those already declared elected. .

There was a slight error in discrediting two votes to Mr A. D. Edgar as an aspirant to the mayoralty, while the increase in informal votes from 19 to 28 indicates that the total number of voters at the election was 3,01.3 instead of 3,002, as was at first announced. With 100 votes more than were counted for him on election night, Mr J. H. Hinton takes third position on the council poll, moving up from fifth, while a correction in Mr J. C. Cherry’s totals places him seventh instead of eighth. Differences in the Hospital Board figures now gi\ r e Mr. J. W. Dove a majority over Mr J. H. Clinch of 1,419, the previous total being given as 1,397. Following are the corrected figures, together with the original totals; — MAYORALTY, Recount. Original.
