Mr A. C, Mills, just retired from tho position of National Bank manager at Otautau, left Dunedin this morning, with his wife, daughter, and niece, for; an extended tour of the world. Mr H. J. Guthrie went north this morning by the 11.35 train to proceed via San Francisco to Mexico City for the Rotary world conference, ofv which he is a director-elect. Mr Philip Palmer’and his sister, both well known in the musical _ circles ofj Dunedin, have given up their home at St. Clair and went off to-day to settle at' Lower Hutt, to which school Mr Palmer was recently appointed. Mr Norman Allen left by the second express to-day for an extended trip to the North Island. , Mr G. H. Bowie travelled by tram to-day from Southland to Tiraaru. Mr W. G. Aldridge, of the Dunedin Technical College, left this morning to attend the technical school teachers’* conference at Wellington. Mr W. G. Sproat has also gone to Wellington for the teachers’ conference. . ' In the list of staff changes mentioned by Mr G. H. Mackley, General Manager of Railways tho position to be occupied by Mr 6. T. Wilson should read “ transportation superintendent, Wellington.” Mr Wilson was formerly an Otago lad. . , Mr W. Angland will contest tho Timaru electorate as an Independent candidate at the General Election against the Rev. Clyde Carr, the Bitting Labour member. Mr J. B. I. Cook has been appointed secretary of the Wellington Hospital Board. He has been acting secretary since the retirement of Mr R, Brown about six months ago. Mr W. A. Brown, headmaster of tho West End School, New Plymouth, is to be transferred to the Kaikorai School as headmaster. He ■ will replace Mr H. Fawcett, who has been appointed headmaster of the Carterton District High School. _ Mr E. B. Fraser (Auckland), Mr E. C. Goran (Te Anau), Mr J. Thomas (Invercargill), and Messrs J. R. Wilson, and J. C. Wilson (Tawanui), are guests at the Grand Hotel. City Hotel guests: Messrs E. H. R< Greer, and G. Sinclair (Wellington),' Messrs L. Smith, and 6. Hart (Christchurch), Miss J. Pollock (Gore), Mrs and Miss Matthews, Mr and Mrs W. D, M'Leod (Manderyille), and Mr Gordon Reed, and Mr and Mrs R. Aitkan (Invercargill). . ■
