CHINESE COMMUNISTS
CHIANG KAI-SHEK'S CAMPAIGN EFFORTS TO FORGE DECISIVE BATTLE FAIL Press Association -By Telegraph—Copyright SHANGHAI, April 12. General Chiang Kai-shek is to-day waging a bitter and most difficult anti-Red campaign against the remnants of the forces which were operating in the provinces of Kweichow and Hunan under the notorious leader Ho-lung, directed by Soviet agents. All efforts to engage in a decisive battle have been futile, since the Reds are continually moving through mountainous territory. Chiang’s forces, however, drove an attacking force towards Szechwan after several heavy engagements, resulting in the death of the notorious leader Chu-teh, whose troops were responsible for the capture of the missionaries Messrs Hayman and Bosshardt, whose fate is still unknown./
So long as the Reds continue their dodging tactics there is little possibility of a quick termination of the present campaign.
