PLAN OF LITTLE AMERICA
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —A “ local ” in Friday night’s ‘ Star ’ describes the drawing or blue print of the plan to scale of Little America. The drawing was executed by the late Mr Ivor Tingloff, who was carpenter with the Byrd Expedition. It will probably he of interest to your readers to know that Ivor Tingloff died 'in the Dunedin Public Hospital prior to the sailing of the Jacob lluppert and the Bear of "Oakland to the States. He was a' very popular member of the expedition and was familiarly nicknamed Ting- by his shipmates. Mr G. M. Mitchell, a member of the crew of the Jacob Rupert, engaged a local firm to take off twenty-five blue prints from the original plan. I was fortunate in securing a copy and presented it to the Otago Early Settlers Association. I presume that this is the drawing which your local refers to. The fact that Ivor Tingloff was the only member of the expedition who died since the former left the States, adds sad but special interest to.the drawing. —I am, etc,, The Donor. April 12.
